EMDR | Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing
This technique is fantastic when working with someone suffering with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and works well for some Anxieties, Phobias, Panic Attacks, Trauma and Flashbacks. You could think of these as unpleasant memories and feelings that are stored just below the surface and that they pop up into your conscious mind unasked for and cause distress.
All levels of anxiety are appropriate at some time. Problems occur when the wrong level of anxiety occurs at the wrong time in a habitual way.
How does it work?
EMDR is a technique that helps your subconscious mind store unpleasant memories and feelings more appropriately and disassociates any feelings attached to traumatic memories. The technique does not use hypnosis so you will not be putting yourself into any unknown situations. After talking about what we will be doing I will ask you to follow my fingers with your eyes as I move them from side to side.
Disassociation is a natural way of protecting us from feelings that become overpowering. In other words, you will be able to think about those memories or see those triggers without feeling fear.
The Best Bit!
When dealing with feelings attached to a traumatic event there is no requirement to trawl through or even discuss the event. The way I use the technique you will give the event/memory/feelings a name and bring them to mind but you will not have to talk about it with me. We just need to be sure your subconscious recognises what is being worked on.
How Much, How Long and How Many Sessions?
I usually complete in one session with a follow-up, aftercare session, just in case anything else has surfaced.
The total cost is £140 which includes both sessions. The first session could take between one and two hours and the follow-up session up to an hour.
“Wow, if I had known it would be so easy I would have done it months ago!”
